This week, we continue the Better Judge a Mead interview series with National Mead Maker of the Year Josh Holbrook talking Carvin Wilson. Among Carvin’s credits: Meadmaker of the Year from both AMMA and AHA, member of the AHA Governing Committee, co-founder of the Mead Institute, and home competition organizer for Mazer Cup. Plus, the man has the most epic stockpile of honeys from all around the world.
In their conversation, he and Josh discuss many topics including regional bias (and how to recognize it), mead styles that often suffer from lack of judge experience, bad habits of judges and competition organizers, why some mead makers need to stop Entering and judge, and finding the beauty in a mead entry before you start searching for flaws.
A quick note for all you BJCP judges out there. Watching and giving feedback on this video interview can earn you non-judging points. Check out this link for more information.
